More reductions in the works in Warrior Run

At the middle school, there will be additional emphasis on language arts and math, with study halls being eliminated in favor of time for remediation. An additional language arts position and two mathematics positions for seventh and eight grades will be needed, but at the same time, two social studies positions will be eliminated. In addition, three health and physical education and one full-time and one half-time music teachers will be shared with the high school. Kurelja made a case for full-time kindergarten, pointing out that a full-day program provides more instructional time for beginning pupils. He noted that every other school district in the region has adopted full-day kindergarten. He also said that kindergarten enrollment has declined 27.5 percent in the district’s two elementary schools, but the number rises when those children come to first grade. If a school voucher law is passed, he said, the district would lose money as children take funds elsewhere for kindergarten. Throughout the presentation, attended by about 100 parents, students and teachers, Kurelja emphasized that the plan was designed to meet the needs of all students in the district. Since the 2005-06 school year, overall enrollment in the district has declined by 154 students, or 8.5 percent. At the same time, however, staffing has declined by only three teachers to 142.

McEWENSVILLE — It’s an eventuality that annually draws families in support of Reading Is Fundamental (RIF). It’s a Warrior Run Woman’s Club Bike Hike, hold Sunday along Route 44 between McEwensville and Watsontown, and this year’s eventuality again brought several dozen together for an afternoon of practice and camaraderie, all for a good cause.

A sum of 72 purebred riders took partial in a 2011 event, a 32nd Bike Hike. Bikers trekked a two-mile widen from McEwensville to Watsontown and behind in support of a RIF program, that annually provides books for facile students in a Warrior Run School District.

“It’s something they demeanour brazen to each year,” pronounced Sue Beck-Whitmoyer, a Bike Hike organizer for a Warrior Run Woman’s Club. “It’s such a family event. Moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, they all float and take part.

“My whole large thing is it’s a family event. Even a prizes, a prizes are collected with family in mind.” Riders keep lane of their mileage and those pedaling a track ranged from really tiny to adult. Bikes with training wheels, mud bikes, competition bikes and 10-speeds and towering bikes were all represented.

This year’s even was hold in observance of Josh Biddle, a former bike hiker who mislaid his life in a automobile collision several years ago. Biddle’s family supposing T-shirts for this year’s event, presented to all purebred bikers.

“This year means a small some-more since of Josh,” pronounced Beck-Whitmoyer. “The family has easily donated a shirts. Again, it’s only a family event, a time where family and friends can come together.”

Members of a Biddle family along with a Reading Wizard got a bikers started.

Bikers were also treated to snacks and prohibited dogs.
