John Force leads Funny Car qualifying in NHRA Southern Nationals
COMMERCE, Ga. — John Force matched an NHRA record Saturday with his 138th No. 1 qualifier, topping the field the Funny Car field Saturday for the NHRA Southern Nationals.
The 62-year-old Force, a seven-time winner at Atlanta Dragway, took the top spot for the fourth consecutive event with his Friday run of 4.072 seconds at 310.98 mph. He matched the qualifying record set by Pro Stock star Warren Johnson.
Spencer Massey (Top Fuel), Mike Edwards (Pro Stock) and LE Tonglet (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also topped their divisions in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event.
Massey and Edwards also had their top runs Friday. Massey had 3.825-second pass at 323.19, and Edwards had a run of 6.605 at 208.55. Tonglet took the top spot in Pro Stock Motorcycle in the final round Saturday, finishing at 6.904 at 192.93.
